Shampoo, baking and YouTube - yes, it's another Peace interview!

Posted on by

Peace has taken on two new Resourcers this year, to help support the Recruitment Consultants and add depth to our team. We thought you'd like to learn a bit more about them, so here we go... starting with Lucy, who apart from being a dab hand with flour and eggs is also addicted to YouTube and is the go-to person in the office if you want your hair shampooed.

Name: Lucy Black

Job title: Recruitment Resourcer

What other jobs have you done apart from working in recruitment?
When I was 13, I began working in a hairdresser, which was probably the worst experience of my life! When I was at school, after I turned 16, I worked as a customer service officer at the Royal Bank of Scotland (aka as a bank teller) and continued there while at university.  Also at university, I decided to take on a further role which was as a promoter and hostess for a night club in Edinburgh - which was great fun, for a while at least. However, I soon decided university wasn’t for me and I left and took a full-time job in the fraud team at the Royal Bank of Scotland. I enjoyed this role but there wasn’t much room for progression and I wanted a proper career so I began to look into recruitment.

What is the funniest thing you’ve seen at work (anywhere)?
When working at RBS in the call centre we all wore headsets which were connected to the phones and a new person on our team absolutely clothes-lined themselves, walking away while forgetting about the headset and just about taking the phone with them!

Biggest disaster anywhere at work? (that you can tell us about!)
When I worked in a hairdressers an elderly woman came in every 4 weeks and got her hair cut and blow dried. She has quite bad dementia and it was hard to keep her in the seat whilst washing her hair. After being trained on the shampoo station she ended up being the first client I ever shampooed. It did not turn out well, she kept trying to stand up, walk away, and shampoo her own hair. She basically ended up soaked, there was nothing I could do, and there was no stopping her. Eventually I learned out to handle the situation and managed to not drown the poor lady every time she acted up when getting her hair washed.

Why did you join Peace?
I liked the idea of working in a smaller office other than a huge floor in a large company such as RBS. I feel working in a smaller team is so much more beneficial. You build close relationships with everyone in the office and feel at home. Everyone helps each other out and if you need help you can ask anyone. Plus the dogs just won me over as soon as I walked through the door.

Who in the Peace office makes you laugh, and why?
Joey and Martin definitely make me laugh. I don’t even sit next to them but just the things they both come out with, I can hear them from my desk and I can’t stop laughing.

Favourite holiday destination?
I loved being in Nice in France; the weather was insane and going to Monaco was an amazing experience.

Favourite sport/team or hobby?
I love baking and making big cakes, it’s something I’m very proud of and will always enjoy.

Where are the real challenges in the recruitment market just now?
Not too sure - I’m still learning, there’s been a couple of challenges I’ve come across but nothing major just yet, touch wood!

Favourite (non work) website and why?
I’m a YouTube addict. I'll watch any video on anything. I love finding out about different things and widening my knowledge.
