Spain, as we all know, is one of the countries hit worst by the coronavirus. However, today Spain is starting to ease some of the strict lockdown measures that have brought its economy to a juddering halt.
That sounds good, but the easing of restrictions applies ONLY to construction and factory workers, energy companies and oil refineries, cleaning and security companies, medical clinics, opticians, press and tobacco kiosks, agriculture, animal feed shops and laundry facilities. Unlike in Sweden, Spain’s bars and restaurants are to remain closed.
Those who work in manufacturing, construction and some services are being allowed to return to work but under strict safety and social distancing guidelines. Everyone else in the country is remaining at home.
We are a long way off this in our country, but it will be interesting to see how it goes in Spain and what lessons can be learned for when construction does, eventually, return in the UK.
