20% of your employees might leave this year…

Posted on by

Hopefully, you were with me two days ago and yesterday.  If not, here’s a precis: Microsoft has conducted a worldwide study which shows (as I’ve been saying for ages) that the pandemic will cause us to restructure working practices, with more hybrid/blended/flexible working being demanded by employees in almost every area of business.  Also, the stresses of remote/online working are seriously impairing employees’ ability to work and their behaviour, yet bosses are seemingly imperviously unaware of this.  Which, according to Microsoft, means…

“41% of employees are considering leaving their current employer this year and 46% say they’re likely to move because they can now work remotely.”

Just think about that for a second.  Think about what it would mean for your own business if even 20% (half that percentage shown in the study) is correct: staff turnover of over one fifth.  Mark my words, this is coming. I don’t know to what extent, but here at Peace we are already seeing the straws in the wind – more calls from people looking to move on, more recruitment managers getting in touch because their hiring reqs have gone up a notch and more off-the-record conversations with senior management that they are worried about what lies ahead.

I may have said at the outset of this trio of blogs that I did foresee some of this, but I don’t pretend to know the answer.  But one thing I do know is that sitting on your hands won’t solve anything. It’s time to get on and make plans to deal with what is coming down the track. Come and talk to us BEFORE it becomes a problem…
